An Introduction to Vaporwave — The Corrupted Dream of the Internet

Neon pink, pastel blue. Marble statues float over endless digital oceans, katakanic characters sit stamped on the skybox. The dream of V A P O R W A V E is that of The Future of the past; now warped through the lens of the pessimist — realist? — of The Internet. The dream once sold to millions now itself sleeps, presented with hindsight, irony, satire. We seem to see reality, the illusion shattered, but the dream still comforts us. We twist and mould it into shapes that satisfy us; collect it, break it, rebuild it as something new. Our frustration bears fruit.
